Chapter 4: The Escape

The house, from the news, was now surrounded by police and FBI units on Johnson Way. One helicopter hovered several feet above the roof of the house. Glass was scattered everywhere. The fence around the house was destroyed by the storm now becoming stronger.

An officer crouched behind a police car door with a megaphone up to his mouth. “Come out of the house with your hands in the air or we will use force.”

“No, but I will send out a hostage when I get my money,” a booming voice replied.

The helicopter above now had a suitcase hanging from a rope dangling above the chimney. Then it fell into the chimney. The helicopter pulled away and a news helicopter took its place. After a whole minute of waiting, the front door of the house open and a man with his hands tied emerged. Two policemen took the man and escorted him to an ambulance on the side of the road.

“Are you okay? Anyone else in there?” The officer to his right offered him a seat on the fender and continued to ask him questions which took the man a while to answer. “What did they do to you?”

The released hostage was shaking, he was scared… “I’m okay. Someone else is in there. The owner is in his study watching live camera feed of the house. The other hostage is my brother!”

The other officer waved at his men and units the go-ahead signal. They immediately ran in the door and busted through windows all around.

“Go! Go! Go!”

A medic opened the ambulance door from the back and asked the released man to climb in the back. The officers shut the door and returned to their position at the house.

Sirens blazed through the air and ambulance took off towards the hospital.

“I need to take your blood pressure.”

“Okay.”

The medic turned around and dug in a cabinet below the counter-top.

The relieved man, from getting out of the house, pulled out a soaked cloth from his back pocket. He reached around the medics face and strangled him to death. It took fifteen struggling seconds to knock out the guy, but it worked to the man’s plan. The medic was then pushed back into his seat, and was now not a problem.

“Everything alright back there Robert?” The driver had no idea of what had happened.

The man responded back, “it’s a little bumpy back here.”

The driver turned around to glance back and stopped in dead silence to see a knife in the patient’s hands, just inches from his neck.

“Stop the ambulance now!”

“I can’t you are in—.”

“Shut up, stop the damn ambulance!”

The driver slowed the ambulance to a stop next to a large pond.

“Get out.” He saw a gun lying under the passenger seat and picked it up and pointed it at the driver.

The door opened and the driver got out and stood in the middle of the road dumbfounded. In seconds his ambulance was driven into the distance by a dangerous man.

Back at the house where the police and FBI swarmed around, things were not going to as planned. One of the men yelled, “Get out the house!” There were no other hostages to save, there was no study with screens showing surveillance of the house. Instead, there was a digital timer on the table next to a book shelf counting down from 5 seconds.

“Get the fuck out of the house, now!”

“Daddy what are they doing?” A little boy was pointing to a house across the street, standing by a window near the front door.

The boy’s father walked over to him and looked at what he was pointing at. “Oh my God.” Three police officer’s ran through the front door and jumped onto the yard. Another standing by one of the police cars fell back on the ground

“Get down Jake!”

…Just as Jake and his father dove behind a couch, they heard a deafening exploding sound. They didn’t get a chance to see what it was, but they felt the ground shake and glass shattered from their window.
